How to Configure a Proxy in Your Local Regular Browser

Part 2 How to Configure a Proxy in Your Local Browser with FoxyProxy

The Extension "FoxyProxy" allows you to configure and switch between proxy connections directly in your browser.

This guide covers how to install FoxyProxy, configure your proxy, and verify whether the proxy is working correctly.

1. Install the FoxyProxy Extension

Google Chrome Browser 

1. Open Google Chrome.
2. isit the Chrome Web Store. [https://chromewebstore.google.com/category/extensions]
3. Search for FoxyProxy.
4. Click Add to Chrome.
5. Confirm the installation.
6. After installation, click the Extensions icon in the top-right corner.
7. Click the Pin icon next to FoxyProxy to add it to your browser toolbar.

Mozilla Firefox Browser 

1. Open Mozilla Firefox.
2. Open the Firefox Add-ons page. [https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/]
3. Search for FoxyProxy.
4. Click Add to Firefox.
5. Confirm the installation.
6. Click the Extensions icon and pin FoxyProxy to the browser toolbar.

2. Configure and Use Your Proxy

   Add a Proxy

1. Click the FoxyProxy icon in the toolbar.
2. Click [Options] to open the settings.
3. Click [Proxies] and [Add] to fill in your proxy information.
4. Select your proxy type, such as HTTP/HTTPS/Socks5.
5. Enter your proxy information:
   • Host / IP
   • Port
   • Username, if required
   • Password, if required
6. Click Save.

✍️Note: Enter the Host/IP and Port separately. Do not add http://, https://, or other prefixes to the Host field unless your proxy provider specifically instructs you to do so.

3. Check Whether the Proxy Is Working

After activating your proxy, open:

https://www.browserscan.net/

BrowserScan can help you determine whether your browser is actually using the proxy.

There are three possible results:

Result 1: Proxy IP Is Displayed

If BrowserScan displays the Proxy IP instead of your real IP:

✅The proxy is working correctly. No further configuration is required.

Result 2: Your Real IP Is Displayed

If BrowserScan displays your Real IP:

🧐The proxy has not been successfully applied. 

Check the following:

• Make sure the correct proxy is selected in FoxyProxy. Switch to the proxy network first, then open BrowserScan and try again.
• Make sure your device is not using another VPN, proxy, or network tool that may interfere with the connection.

After checking the settings, activate the proxy again and test with BrowserScan.

Result 3: BrowserScan Shows "Error" or Fails to Connect

If BrowserScan cannot connect and displays Error or a connection failure:

The proxy itself is not working or cannot establish a connection.

Check:

• Make sure the proxy information is correct.
• Whether this is a Sock5 proxy, if yes, please use Firefox browser to test.

If the proxy information is correct but BrowserScan still cannot connect, contact your proxy provider to confirm that the proxy is active and available.
